- Community Schools
It has been our intention to return to some form of in-person learning as soon as it was determined by our health departments that it is both safer and feasible to do so. On September 21, during our virtual town hall with county health department officials, we reviewed the current coronavirus data for our community. To this end, our county health agency partners have made the recommendation that it is now appropriate for us to return to a hybrid learning model. Click here to watch the virtual town hall discussion about the data guiding our decisions and current levels in our community. Beginning Monday, October 5, we will be implementing a hybrid in-person learning schedule for all students who are not currently enrolled in the LaunchED program. LaunchED student’s schedules will not be impacted by this change.
Central Elementary is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) school. The IB PYP uses student interest to study topics that are of importance in the world in which we live.
At an IB World School, students build on previous knowledge, develop an understanding of their world, take action, and reflect on their learning. At each grade level students learn about the 6 Transdisciplinary Themes, what we want to learn, focusing on different concepts within each theme from pre-school to 5th grade.
· Who We Are
· Where We Are in Place and Time
· How We Express Ourselves
· How the World Works
· How We Organize Ourselves
· Sharing the Planet
Each unit is referred to as a Unit of Inquiry (UOI). All of the units from pre-school to 5th grade together are referred to as the Programme of Inquiry (POI).
Central staff and students strive to be life long learners who represent the Learner Profile:
